Coast Guard finds new deficiencies on Victory Casino Cruise ship

Almost ready to be at sea once again.

After a Victory Casino Cruise ship operating out of Mayport halted service last week because of several infractions uncovered by the Coast Guard, we’re told all of those deficiencies have been fixed. Thursday’s inspection, however, found three new issues.

The Coast Guard says two of those must be fixed before the ship can carry passengers, but they're relatively minor- two smoke detectors needed to be fixed and some changes need to be made to the life vest storage. The deficiencies which initially shut down the operations included problems with the fire suppression system and the accessibility of a rescue boat.

An inspection has already been scheduled for Friday morning, and the Coast Guard expects the issues will be fixed by then, letting the ship resume normal operations. Victory Casino Cruise has already taken to Twitter to push for people to sign up for trips this weekend.

The Coast Guard says they will increase inspections on the vessel for some time, moving them to quarterly checks. They also continue to investigate what factors contributed to the ship having these deficiencies in the first place.
