Community comes together for wounded detective

By Matt Augustine

ORANGE PARK, Fla. —

Skate Station in Orange Park hosted a fundraiser Monday night for wounded Clay County detective Matt Hanlin, who was shot during a February 16th meth lab raid that claimed the life of his partner, David White.

About 250 people came out to strap on skates and support Detective Hanlin, who says he's lost a lot of money on overtime pay.  Hanlin says he's back at work on light duty, but his gunshot wounds have made it difficult for him to work at full capacity.

Overall, the event raised $2,300 for Hanlin and his family.

"Men and women of the [Clay County] sheriff's office have been outstanding in supporting me and my family and they're part of my family," Hanlin said.

He keeps in regular contact with David White's family.  Hanlin says he's incredibly grateful to the community and overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for both him and Detective White's family.
