Converted housing project targets the homeless

By WOKV News Team

Jacksonville, FL —

What was once a foreclosed apartment complex will now be affordable housing for those at risk of being homeless.

“We invested over $6 million in this project to have 52 units of housing for veterans and homelessness and [people with a] disability,” says Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown.

Brown helped dedicate the Renaissance Village at 3140 Franklin Street Tuesday.  The project was converted by Ability Housing of Northeast Florida.

The group also received a $100,000 check from TD Bank to help build the units.

Ability Housing says the complex will house 138 people, including 76 children under 18 years old.

The project was financed by a grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, given through the city.
