Days after hit-and-run, 22-year-old dies

By Gene Wexler

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

The 22-year-old victim of a hit-and-run last week outside the Jacksonville Landing has died.  Police say there are still questions as to what happened after a fight that eventually lead to his death.

They identified Taylor Evans as the man who was run over by a car.  He was on life support at Shands in the days following the accident and died.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said there are no new details on the case.  They won't comment on potential suspects or witnesses investigators have interviewed.

About 2:15 a.m. on August 10, fights broke out after a crowd left the country bar Mavericks Rock N'Honky Tonk.  That's when police say Evans was run over.

Our news partner Channel 4 reports Evans' friends said he was an innocent bystander when several fights at Mavericks continued into the parking lot nearby.

Police said they have not yet made any arrests.

Anyone with any information about this case is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
