Defense Secretary expected to face furlough questions at NAS Jax
Jacksonville, FL —
We will follow Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel Tuesday as he visits NAS Jax to address concerns in a town-hall meeting.
It's expected Hagel will field questions about furloughs that just recently kicked in. Sean McMurray is stationed in Mayport and tells our partner Action News his family is already feeling the effects.
"If he's going to address everybody then perhaps he's going to resolve the long-term duration of furlough," McMurray said.
"I would ask him what steps is he taking to make the organization more efficient so we have the right number of employees and we don't have to have concern about a furlough in the future," said McMurray.
Governor Rick Scott is also demanding answers from the Department of Defense about what he calls the foolishness of furloughs.
"Hopefully they're going to say 'we made a mistake we're not going to furlough the National Guard during hurricane season," said Scott.
Hagel is scheduled to speak at NAS JAX Tuesday morning during the Herman Cain show. Congressman Ander Crenshaw is also expected to be there.
WOKV will update this story after speaking with Hagel.
