NORTHEAST Fla. —
The recently lack of rain has driven up risks of wildfires as the season starts.
"We're really just coming into the dry season, which is also our wildfire season," says Annalisa Winter, a wildfire mitigation specialist for the Florida Forest Service. "So the potential is there for it to be drier and the fire danger to increase throughout the next couple of weeks and even into the next couple of months."
Winter says our area isn't as bad as some others in the northern part of the state.
"Further south it's a little wetter," she says. "The northern parts of our district here in Northeast Florida are a little drier."
St. Johns, Clay, Putnam and other counties further south are drier than Duval, Nassau and Baker.

There is some rain in the forecast for this week, which can mitigate some of the risks.
