Duval County voter registrations at record level

Jacksonville, FL —

Grassroots efforts to get out the vote and boost registrations have yielded big numbers in Northeast Florida.

“We are at our highest number ever in Duval County right now,” says Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland.

Tomorrow is the last day to register to vote, and at our most recent check, there were just fewer than 550,000 registered voters in the county.  That’s the number Holland had hoped to reach this election cycle, and he now believes we may pass it in the remaining day.

But as impressive as the overall level is the number of recent registrations which have come through.

“In the last 40 days we’ve had close to 40,000 people register for this election,” he says.

The number of current registrations is also about 10,000 higher than four years ago.

In order to accommodate as many registrations as possible, Holland says his office will be open extended hours tomorrow, 7:30 AM-7:30 PM.  You can also register at any library or tax collector’s office.  In order to register, Holland says all you need to know is your driver’s license or Social Security number.  The process itself will take only a few minutes to complete.
