A former Flagler Beach police officer is charged with attempted murder.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office tells me 40-year-old Nathaniel David Juratovac, St. Augustine, is being held on no bond for the apparent road rage shooting near St. Augustine Shores.
Juratovac was driving north on US 1 near Watson Road Friday night with his wife a child in the car. 30-year-old Jared Conrad Parkey, St. Augustine, was also driving in that area with a passenger. Parkey is a Flagler County firefighter.
St. Johns deputies have not yet released the cause of the argument, but it ended in gunfire. Investigators say Juratovac shot Parkey twice and Parkey was airlifted to Shands Jacksonville, but is now home recovering.
Juratovac was questioned and, early Saturday morning, formally arrested. He has been transferred out of the St. Johns County Jail because his wife is a deputy of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, and SJCSO Corporal Catherine Payne tells me it’s standard procedure not to house a relative like this. The facility he was transferred to is not immediately available. Payne says it’s too early to tell where he will be tried.
Juratovac’s wife was questioned as a witness, but doesn’t face charges. She was off-duty at the time.
Investigators have spoken to several other witnesses through this investigation as well, and continue to look in to the cause of the shooting.
