JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

For the first time, we're hearing from the family of the girl killed one week ago as she was sleeping in her own bedroom.

The family of JaNay Jackson talked to Channel Four about the last night of her life.

Her father, Jerry, recalls the last words he told his daughter.

"She looked over at me and she said, 'Dad, are you about to go to bed?'" Jerry, said.  "I said, 'Yeah.' And she said, 'Goodnight, Dad.' I said, 'Goodnight, baby.' She says, 'I love you.' I says, 'I love you.'"

JaNay's mother, Felicia, says the night started out as any other.

"I went in as usual, gave her a big kiss and a hug, and she was telling me about her day at school, and then I kissed her, and that was it."

But the night didn't have a happy ending.

As she was sleeping, a minivan being driven by Ismet Sijamhodzic blew through a stop sign at the intersection of Barnes and Kennerly roads and careened into the 17-year-old's bedroom as she was sleeping.

"This person took my baby," Jerry said.  "She was asleep.  That's all she was trying to do."

Felicia recalls what she saw after she went into JaNay's bedroom after the crash.

"All I could see was from her head to her waist. Everything else was pinned.

"I was like, 'JaNay, JaNay, and she just said, 'Ahh, ahh,'  And I said, 'JaNay, JaNay, it's mommy.' And she just said, 'Ahhh.'"

JaNay's older brother, Talbert, says the loss of his sister leaves a huge void.

"Just looking over in the seat and not seeing her there, not being able to make a joke at her, tickle her, pinch her cheeks, just, miss my baby sis," Talbert says.

During this time of unspeakable tragedy, the family says their faith is getting them through.

"I know we worship and serve a loving God, and I know he's going to help us through this," says Jerry, "and I know he's going to fulfill his promises of knowing that we're going to see her again."

JaNay's funeral will be held this Saturday -- the time and place have not been set yet.

As for Sijamhodzic, he has not been charged with a crime yet -- investigators are awaiting toxicology reports.
