First responders in Clay to test response to active shooter

By Staff

Jacksonville, FL —

This afternoon it's going to look and feel like a real emergency. But it's a training exercise.

Dozens of police from Clay County and Orange Park are using an active shooter scenario at Everest University on Wells Road during a three hour training exercise.

Sheriff Rick Beseler says training for the real-thing is critical.

"We even had a courthouse shooting incident here in this country, so we're beefing up our courthouse security".

You will see dozens of police, fire and SWAT members on and around Wells Road during today's drill from 2pm to 5pm.

You will see message boards posted along Wells Road to alert people to the fact that it is a drill, not a real incident.
