FL police continue push for increased drone use

Tallahassee, FL —

The push for more ways to utilize drones is strengthening on the local level.

"This thing is not quiet at all. It's quite noisey," says Miami Police Sergeant Andrew Cohen.

He says there's a critical need for drones, especially if a gunman tries to shoot down one of their helicopters.

"If that happens, we have another situation on top of the one we're already dealing with," says Cohen.

In addition to taking officers out of harm's way, Cohen says there's a real need for gathering real-time intelligence. Florida Officers are pressuring our elected officials to allow them to use drones for crowd control, but some lawmakers consider that too intrusive.

"What we're talking about here is Big Brother and the idea that Big Brother is watching," said Sen. Geraldine Thompson, D-Orlando.
