Florida gun sellers point out flaws in gun control initiatives

Jacksonville, FL —

Some Florida gun sellers are finding some flaws in President Obama's gun control initiatives.

It's being called the most sweeping effort at gun control policy reform in a generation, which includes a required criminal background check for all gun sales. But, private gun seller Michael Ioia says the problem is...

"I go meet, Joe Shmoe on the street, I don't know what his mental stability is. And if I'm calling him up, just to see if he's got a clean record - that's fine, he's got a clean record. But if he's mentally unstable, I don't know that, and I can't check that. And that's where adding background checks needs to change." says Ioia. He also worries it will become cumbersome.

But, gun seller Jim Hayden says he already does his own background checks, so he's not opposed to reasonable checks for private sales.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says they're doing 4,000 background checks per day. Florida recently passed the one-million mark for the number of registered gun owners in the state.
