Florida Republicans excited for Rubio's SOTU response

By Matt Augustine

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

We'll hear the president give the state of the union address Tuesday at 9 p.m. and following that we'll hear the GOP response from Senator Marco Rubio, who one Florida GOP official says is the perfect candidate for the job.

"Marco's got an ability, a unique ability to connect with people, and on top of that he's bilingual," says Florida GOP chair Lenny Curry.

Tuesday's GOP response will be the first ever to be given in both English and Spanish and a chance for the Cuban-born Rubio to get some face time on a national stage as rumors are already circulating that Rubio will make a run for the White House in 2016.

Curry says he hopes Senator Rubio will focus on priorities like reining in the national defecit and boosting the economy and job growth when he gives the response.

As for the president's portion, Congressman Ander Crenshaw hopes he puts partisanship aside and focuses on problem solving.

"I hope he's a little more conciliatory and I hope he's more interested in solving problems...what I hope the president will say is let's put aside some of this political conflict and try to work together."

WOKV will carry the State of the Union address live starting at 9 p.m.  You can leave us your comments and thoughts on what you'd like to hear the president and Sen. Rubio say on our Facebook page.
