Gingrich supporters remain hopeful after loss in Florida

By Alyssa Spirato

Jacksonville, FL —

Supporters of Newt Gingrich remain strong in their views that the presidential hopeful has what it takes to make the Republican nomination despite last night's loss to Mitt Romney in the Florida Primaries.

“He’ll go as far as he can without losing his shirt,” says supporter Don Rawlins who took in the sights at the Gingrich headquarters on Riverside Avenue to watch the Florida primary Tuesday night.

Even though Gingrich took a strong second to Mitt Romney, Rawlins believes Gingrich has what it takes to push far into the campaign.

“I would compare him to a plumber who is the best plumber in town and my house has been under water for three and a half years now with the President administration, and it’s flooding,” says Rawlins.

Duval county chair Bert Ralston tells WOKV with the close call between Romney and Gingrich in some Northeast Florida counties, he says the volunteers made a difference and that Gingrich's conservative measures designated with the voters here in Jacksonville.

“Demographics of the states look a lot more like South Carolina than they do Florida. They’re states where money is meaningful, but not as much so as it is in Florida,” says Ralston.
