Jacksonville, FL —
Governor Rick Scott is stacking up the lawsuits from state unions.
"What's at stake is public safety," says Hal Johnson, General Counsel for the Florida Police Benevolent Association.
The PBA is suing the governor over the privatization of 18 prisons in South Florida. Scott denies what he's doing is illegal.
“If the private sector can do it better, we should look at that because again, that's taxpayer money and we got to watch out for how we spend taxpayer money,” said Scott.
At the same time, the Florida Education Association is suing Scott over the amendment that could transfer funds from public schools to religious schools.
“This is about vouchers and they ought to be honest with the voters and just put it out there and let's have a vote for now,” says FEA President Andy Ford
“People need to know that Government isn't always acting in their best interest,” says Constitutional Attorney Ron Meyer who is litigating the case for FEA.
Both of those suits were filed this week, bringing the total number of cases against the governor since he took office in January to six. More lawsuits are on the way, including a suit by the ACLU over drug testing welfare recipients.
