Gov. Scott responds to immigration ruling

By Tiffany Griffith

Tallahassee, FL —

Governor Rick Scott is calling for a uniform immigration policy after the Supreme Court's ruling on the Arizona law.

Following the ruling, Scott says there's a lack of action by the Federal Government to handle illegal immigration. So, the states are taking it into their own hands.

"I still believe the federal government ought to secure our borders. They ought to have a national immigration policy and take responsibility for this," Scott said. "I think the states are having to respond because the federal government hasn't."

He says current enforcement is negatively impacting businesses state and nationwide.

President Obama today said he's glad the court struck down key parts of the law, but that he's concerned about racial profiling under the part that wasn't struck down -- the provision that tells police to check the immigration status of people they stop for other reasons. His expected November opponent, Mitt Romney, is accusing Obama of doing nothing about immigration for most of his term.

The state of Arizona can't require all immigrants to carry immigration registration papers, and it can't make it a crime for an illegal immigrant to hold a job. Those were among the provisions of the state's immigration crackdown that were struck down today by the Supreme Court.

The ACLU is also threatening more legal action against the ruling.
