JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

Once again, Tallahassee wants answers in the ongoing investigation into the spending and leadership practices of the Florida State College at Jacksonville.

In a letter sent from the Governor's office Wednesday, Rick Scott asks chief inspector general Melinda Miguel to do a review of the past five years of spending at FSCJ.  The letter asks Miguel to review "the risks presented to taxpayers through existing contracts with college presidents within the Florida State College system.  This follows a call for a top-down leadership review that Scott asked for in September after it was shown that now outgoing president Steve Wallace had spent $46,000 of college money on meals over two years.

A Florida Times-Union report from July showed that Wallace dropped $187,000 on food, drinks, charitable contributions, technology, and other expenses.  Included in that was money from the college foundation, which directly supports FSCJ.  The college even reimbursed Wallace for more than $46,000 on the meals and drinks.

FSCJ board members voted this week to give Wallace a $1.2 million severance package. A spokeswoman for the governor told WOKV in a statement that it's unfortunate that much money was spent on severance pay and not invested in the students and the classroom.

We are reaching out to Governor Scott this morning to get his thoughts.
