Governor Scott surveys damage from TS Isaac

By Matt Augustine

PALM BEACH, Fla. —

Now that Tropical Storm Isaac has veered away from Florida and the Republican National Convention, it’s time for Governor Rick Scott to go out and see how bad it is.  He says for all the worrying we did about Isaac hitting the Keys and then the RNC in Tampa, we didn’t see a whole lot of action…

"So our benefit is basically now hurting southeast Louisiana.  They're just getting dumped on right now."

Scott wants people to know that despite some of the flooding damage, Florida is still the tourism state it always has been, and is open for business.  He says emergency crews still must survey a couple areas before they can get a real estimate on damage.  Scott said he’s not sure yet whether the federal government will provide aid.

"We'd have to have about $25 million of damage that was not covered by insurance."

Governor Scott says Florida's relationship with FEMA is very strong, so in the even the federal government does have to step in, there will be a good working relationship already in place.  He’s visiting Palm Beach and Key West this afternoon.  Both experienced some significant flooding when Isaac did brush Florida’s west coast.
