Graffiti found on home burned in fire

Graffiti found on home burned in fire

By WOKV News Team

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue confirms with WOKV that nobody was injured in an early morning fire at Ironwood Townhomes, located at at 4134 Crownwood Drive just off Gate Parkway.

Officer Shannon Hartley with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office tells our partner Action News they were called to the scene by JFRD after they discovered a nasty message written in graffiti on the house which burned.

"I can't speak just yet as to what type of graffiti it is," Hartley said.  "The statements are inflammatory."

Later we learned that the message read "The n***** that lives here is a thief. He robbed me." Neighbors tell Action News a white woman owns the townhome and has an African-American boyfriend but he does not live at the home.

We're also hearing this isn't the first incident of this kind at the home.  On Sunday, a rock with a note attached was apparently thrown through the woman's window and a bush outside her home was lit on fire.  Neighbors say the woman who owns the home is shaken up, but OK.

Ofc. Hartley says JSO is investigating to see which crime, if any, was committed.  They are not calling this a hate crime at this time.

Tom Francis with JFRD says firefighters deserve credit for putting the fire out in a half hour.  None of the adjacent apartments were damaged and nobody was injured.
