Have any extra weapons lying around?

Flagler County, FL —

The Flagler County Sheriff is aiming to get weapons off the streets, and he is willing to pay you to do it.

Flagler County’s first gun buy-back will take place this Saturday, August 11, from 9 AM to 1 PM at Town Center.

For each operational firearm you turn in, you will get a $50 gift card- up to $150.  You can turn in more firearms, other weapons and even prescription drugs at this event.

“No questions asked, we will just take the weapon.  That’s all we’re interested in at this point in time,” Sheriff Donald Fleming says.

He was inspired to host the event after getting a crime prevention grant through the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners.

“Every weapon we take off the street is a possible life we save,” he says.

You can turn in your weapon at the north side of Central Park at Town Center where drive-through stations will be set up.  Guns should be unloaded and stored in the trunk or back area of trucks.  Deputies will come to the vehicle and participants must not leave their vehicles.

If you cannot make it to Town Center, Fleming says you can call the Sheriff’s Office at (386)313-4911 to arrange a pick-up at your home.  He says the Sheriff’s Office is always willing to take in weapons, but only during the time of this event can you receive a gift card in return.

Fleming is hoping for a big turn-out, and wants to turn this first time event into something the office holds at least once a year.
