Home sales on the rise in October

By Matt Augustine

New home sales jumped 1.3 percent nationwide in October, pushing the number of available homes to its lowest since last April.  Things are looking good here on the First Coast as well.

"WE have seen an increase in consumer confidence here in Northeast Florida and that's translated into more traffic into our models and ultimately more sales," says Northeast Florida Builders Association president Michael Bourre.

Even though the median sales price dropped half a percent, Bourre says, buyers are seeing that now is a good time to get back into the market because consumer confidence is slowly rising.

"We are, you know, at and have been at the bottom for some time now, and that plateau is now shifting back up."

He doesn't think that the drop in price will scare potential buyers away, as is generally the trend when the median sales price drops.
