Detectives in St. Johns County tell WOKV there is an active search in southern St. Johns County for 67 year-old Barbara Parchem.
Police say they began searching an area in Flagler Estates, around East Deep Creek Blvd. and Jonathon Street.
We have not been told what led police to the area or what they have found.
Here is what we reported Friday, April 26th, 2013:
Foul play is now suspected in the disappearance of a St. Johns County woman three weeks ago.
St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar says 67-year-old Barbara Parchem was a woman of routine, and she would not break that routine this long without contacting someone. That added to a few other undisclosed factors lead investigators to believe there is foul play, although Shoar says, at this time, there is nothing to indicate she is dead.
“We’re working around the clock to solve this, get some closure,” he says.
Shoar says they are talking to a “field of individuals”, but there is nobody they have formally designated a person of interest.
When she first disappeared, there was an extensive search on ground and by air around Parchem’s Vermont Heights home. Through evidence uncovered during this investigation, they are getting a better idea of Parchem’s activities on the last day she was seen, and that’s giving them further leads.
“As a result of some of the evidence we’re gunna be conducting some more laser focused searches in the coming two or three days,” Shoar says.
He wouldn’t say specifically where they are looking, but he says the search could lead them in to adjacent counties. The Sheriff’s Office has released new surveillance footage of Parchem, although they have not yet disclosed the location the photos were taken.
Investigators are looking for any information you may have as well. Specifically, Parchem’s 2005 red Nissan Pathfinder was seen in Southwest St. Johns County on the afternoon of April 5th. It has a heart in shoe polish on the rear passenger driver’s side window. It is not known whether there was another person in the car when it was last seen.
If you have any information about the vehicle or the whereabouts of Parchem, her friends are offering a reward if it leads to her finding. You can contact SJCSO Detective Jeremy Russell at 904-209-2193. You can also submit an anonymous tip and be eligible for a reward by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS.
