JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

The line began forming Thursday night at the St. Johns Town Center in anticipation of the Apple Store's opening on Friday morning, which meant one thing: the iPhone 5 is finally on sale.

Felix Soleh was the first person to get one from the Apple Store.  He was first in line out front of the store after arriving at 1 a.m.  Until about 5:30 a.m. customers were told they had to wait around the back of the Apple Store while employees set up the display.

"I work nights, and tonight is to be my night off, so I didn't have anything better to do at home so I just figure why not just wait in line and get the new technology from Apple.  It's just something like a hobby," he said.

When the store cracked its doors at 8, Felix went in and came out 15 minutes later with the first two iPhones sold in the store.

"It's worth it...I got two of these and one's probably going to be upgrade for my old phone.  It's a 32 gig for photos, video, and games.  The other one is just a 16 gig and it's for maybe a family member.  Maybe an early Christmas present."

Another customer, Matthew Jeffries already had his shiny new iPhone 5 out of its box when he walked out of the store.  He says the first thing he's going to do with it is restore all his contacts so he can actually call and text people.

"It's great.  I really like it.  I really am happy to get started with this...it's very light," he said.

$299 will get you the smallest model they have, a 16 GB phone in white or black that comes with all the features you've been hearing about: 4G LTE, a new 4 inch high-resolution display that will add an extra row of app space for users, re-designed speakers and headphones, and of course, the brand new iOS 6 operating system, which released for download on Wednesday and comes installed on the iPhone 5.  If you need more space, you can upgrade to a 32 or 64 GB model for $100 and $200 more, respectively.
