Some good can come out of the Jacksonville media attacking each other with dodge balls.

Nine Jacksonville newsrooms faced off in the inaugural event that merged their love of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. With the help of Dodgeball actor Kevin Porter, Jacksonville Magazine won Newsroom Street Fight - a charity dodgeball tournament to benefit the children of the Jacksonville Police Athletic League. "Jax Magma" stayed out of the Loser's Bracket throughout the entire competition, and brought their fierce fire to the championship match against the Jacksonville Business Journal. Following their victory, Jacksonville Magazine was awarded The Golden Trident.

"We are so proud to have won the Newsroom Street Fight golden trident! Thank you, Jacksonville P.A.L. for hosting the event, we were honored to participate," the magazine tweeted after the event.

In general, the print organizations had the strongest showing. No broadcast outlet made it beyond the third round of the Winner's Bracket. First Coast News held on until the fourth round of the Loser's bracket. Jaguars Eben Britton played for WJCT, while Rashad Jennings ducked & dodged for WOKV.

Most importantly, all nine news organizations should be proud of themselves for raising $6,353.75 for the kids of Jacksonville P.A.L. WOKV - aka the "News Breakers, Ball takers" raised the most money - $1,829.75 - and took home the Impact Award.

Tiffany Mackey with P.A.L. says funds have always been hard to come by for their eastside kids. "But this money will help our Tackle & Cheer program. It will cover the cost of registration, equipment, supplies, helmets, padding, and uniforms for four or five teams! Plus paint for our brand new field. This is a huge gift!"

The Daily Record raised the second highest amount ($1,395.00) followed by Folio Weekly ($680.00). P.A.L. officials say they'll thank all of the participating newsrooms by hanging a banner at the field and inviting everyone to a football game.

There are several requests to make this an annual event.
