A Jacksonville fourth grade teacher is arrested on allegations of sex crimes against kids.

61 year-old Michael Worrell was arrested Tuesday night on capital sexual battery and other sex crimes, dating back to 2006.

The arrest report says Worrell assaulted three victims between the ages of 9 and 13 in various local hotels.   We do not know if the victims are students.

Worrell was a fourth grade teacher at Greenfield Elementary School on the southside, and was removed from the classroom when the allegations surfaced August 22nd, which was the second day of the new school year. 

The school district is recommending suspension without pay pending termination at the October 2nd school board meeting. 

In a written statement provided by the Duval County School District, Worrell was hired as a substitute teacher in 2003 and then full-time as a fourth grade teacher at S.P. Livingston in March of 2006. 

Worrell also taught at Paxon Middle School from 2009-2011, and taught fourth grade at Greenfield Elementary until he was removed from the classroom on August 22nd.

In its written statement, school district spokesperson Jill Johnson said:

The Duval Schools family is extremely concerned by the allegations against a teacher at Greenfield Elementary School. Based on new processes and enhanced communication between agencies, the district removed this teacher from the classroom immediately upon notification of an investigation into inappropriate behavior off campus. We will provide the outcome of the investigation to the Professional Practices Commission in Tallahassee for any potential action against his teaching certificate.
