He’s already earned the Purple Heart, 2011 Good Person of the Year award from the Good People Foundation, and the Star of Honor from Work Vessels for Veterans- and now one Jacksonville veteran can add another honor.
Adam Burke, an Iraq combat veteran, received the 2012 Citizens Medal from President Barack Obama Friday. That is the second highest honor you can earn as a civilian, dedicated to exemplary service.
In 2009, Burke opened “Veterans Farm”, a 19-acre handicap-accessible farm that helps teach veterans to make a living. Burke tells our Washington Bureau the farm is designed to help give vets a purpose and work through physical and mental barriers.
He now runs three “Farms” in Jacksonville and wants to open more across the country.
