JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

Jacksonville police are investigating a carjacking that lead to police firing on the suspect after a short car chase on the city's Westside late Monday night.

JSO says the incident began in the parking lot of the Olive Garden restaurant in the River City Marketplace on the Northside where someone was carjacked by an armed black male around 21-years-old.  Police then spotted the suspected car on the Westside and intercepted it.

"During the chase, a precision immobilization technique was performed on the suspect vehicle.  The suspect vehicle [then] crashed through a fence and into a yard," says assistant chief Chris Butler with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Buter says preliminary reports indicate that when the suspect got out of the car and tried to run away, he fired on police officers.  They returned fire and were able to set up a perimeter and finally detain the suspect.

"None of the officers were injured or hurt as a result.  The suspect was not struck by any gunfire whatsoever," says Butler.

JSO says the investigation is ongoing.  They did not release the names of either the suspect or the victim(s).  WOKV will update this story as more information becomes available.
