A shooting in Northwest Jacksonville turns in to a chase that ends when an officer hits the suspect with his car.
Officer MC Pelletier, a 13-year veteran of JSO, was on-duty and sitting in his car at the Exxon near Kings Rd. and Barnett St. when he witnessed a man walk up to a car, speak with the person inside, and then fire a gun. The car that was being shot in to drove away, and the officer exited his car to confront the suspect- firing one shot.
The suspect, who has been identified as 55-year-old Michael Jerome Hudson, fled on foot and the officer returned to his car to pursue. JSO says Hudson turned on to Blue Avenue, and when the officer turned to follow, he saw the suspect standing with his gun pointed at the officer.
At that point, JSO says Pelletier hit the suspect, after which the officer says he heard another gun shot. He exited his car and found the suspect on the ground with non-life threatening injuries. He took his gun away and took him in to custody, although Hudson is first getting medical treatment.
Police believe Hudson and the victim have had some long-running problem, although the exact details on that problem have not been released. Further details about Hudson’s criminal record are expected to be released by JSO Monday.
The victim did return to the scene and has been assisting the investigation.
Pelletier has been placed on administrative leave, per JSO policy. This was his first officer-involved shooting.
