The Jacksonville attorney who authorities say is at the center of a gambling charity operation under investigation has posted bond.

A judge reduced Kelly Mathis' bond Friday from $1 million to $200,000 during a closed-door session in Sanford.

Mathis' attorney says his client did nothing wrong. His attorney, Mitchell Stone, says he expects Mathis to post the bond and be released from the Seminole County Jail later in the day.

“The million dollars bond is tantamount to no bond,” said defense attorney Mitch Stone.

Stone says Mathis was operating within what he should do as the organization’s attorney. He’s trying to cast doubt on the claims that he is involved in the alleged illegal gaming.

“You need to look at McDonald’s, you need to look at Pepsi and every other organization and every other business that does any kind of sweepstakes,” he says.

Other key players were in front of a judge as well.

Allied Veterans National Commander Jerry Bass also received a $1,000,000 bond. He is facing more than 200 various counts of criminal charges.

Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police President Nelson Cuba and Vice President Robbie Freitas both face more than 20 counts. They were held on $500,000 bond. Cuba’s was reduced Friday to $250,000. He is now out of jail.

As part of the bond conditions they also surrender their passport and must stay in Florida. The suspects must also prove the money they use to pay the bond was not earned through illegal activity.
