The legal battle continues over whether moving the Duval County Elections headquarters from Gateway to 1 Imeson disenfranchises African-American voters.
A federal judge issued an order allowing Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland to move the elections headquarters to 1 Imeson. It's a move that's also supported by city council. This all comes after Gateway filed an initial lawsuit to prevent the relocation of the elections headquarters from Gateway to 1 Imeson.
But now another lawsuit filed by the Southern Christian Leadership conference also challenges the relocation disenfranchises Black voters. However, Holland says he's committed to having an early voting location in the Gateway community.
"We'll either be at the Gateway Center or there's two public locations right there close to Gateway."
Holland doesn't believe this second lawsuit will stick. He's planning to start moving equipment to 1 Imeson next week.
