Police say a man accused of killing a local 18 year-old mother had previously been deported twice.
Neighbors say they saw Jose Valle-Jimenez leave an apartment complex in the San Pablo area just 40 minutes before a family member discovered the body of his wife, 18 year-old Rosa Garcia.
Police say he vanished from the scene and hid out at his sister's house in Palm Beach County. He has since been arrested there, and JSO is awaiting his arrive back to Duval County where he will face murder charges.
Our partner Action News asked Stephen Davis, a local attorney, how he was able to obtain a job at a restaurant, buy a car and live in a Southside apartment complex after two deportations.
"He got under the radar, big time," Davis says. "They could have fake IDs, there are fake green cards out there that people buy. There are fake Social Security numbers and the government is trying to crack down."
Davis says this case proves why immigration reform is needed. Without a change in law, he says there's no easy way for the government to keep track of immigrants.
