Lt. Bill Leeper with the Florida Highway Patrol retires after serving 35 years in the agency, and 18 years as a public information officer for Jacksonville.

Jacksonville, FL —

A prominent lieutenant in the Florida Highway Patrol is hanging up his hat and saying goodbye.

Lt. Bill Leeper, who's served as the public information officer for 18 consecutive years, is now retired.

Family, friends, and fellow co-workers gathered Wednesday to congratulate him on his retirement and a job well done.

Leeper tells our newspartner Channel 4 although he's leaving FHP, he plans on taking a shot at running for Nassau County Sheriff.
