In Mandarin: Possible kidnapping of young girl in pickup truck

Gene Wexler, Rich Jones

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

Police have suspended their search for a girl who may have been kidnapped in a pickup truck Monday in Mandarin.

Melissa Bujeda of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office tells WOKV that someone called police around 3 p.m. saying he or she saw something suspicious on the 3400 block of Cypresswood Drive, off San Jose north of I-295.

The caller saw a middle or high school-aged girl with light-colored, long hair and wearing a turquoise colored top.

She was seen being held by a white male in a maroon colored pickup truck which had its doors open while driving.

Police said they canvassed the area and made contact with all of the area schools and buses.  We've been checking through the night and this morning and have been told police have had no reports of a missing person.

Police increased patrols in the area Monday night, and they're awaiting a phone call if someone is missing.

Police went door-to-door looking for witnesses, reports of a missing child, or anyone who can identify the maroon pickup truck.

Bujeda asks parents of children who fit the description to make contact with their child to be sure she is safe.  If the child cannot be reached and parents have an uneasy feeling, they are asked to call the police.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Department can be reached at 904-630-0500.
