NAACP statement on recent Jacksonville violence

  • comment(3)

Jacksonville, FL —

The Jacksonville Branch NAACP issues the following statement:

The Jacksonville Branch NAACP speaks out against all forms of violence.  We are utterly outraged at the senseless actions of those who committed the shooter near J.S. Johnson Park on Sunday night and this afternoon shooting near Kings Rd. and Prince St..  Our sincere thoughts and prayers extend to all victims.  It is urgent that persons with any information provide such to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.  Our community will not tolerate such violence and we all should participate to bring this to an end.

In efforts to advance the NAACP Criminal Justice goals, the NAACP Criminal Justice Department has developed a "smart and safe" framework to implement an advocacy agenda to ensure public safety as a civil and human right for all communities and more specifically the many communities in crisis.  Your local branch of the NAACP recognizes this community is certainly in crisis and supports public safety.  Too many have fought hard battles in this community, to even think that such violent activity is acceptable.
