There's a new face in the murder case of 12-year-old Cristian Fernandez, the boy accused of beating his 2-year-old half brother to death.
Judge Mallory Cooper will preside over the case after Judge Elizabeth Senterfitt recused herself.
Cooper has worked in the state attorney's special assault unit, and as the juvenile division chief, which some lawyers like public defender Janet Johnson say make her a great person to handle a case of this magnitude.
"I think she's extremely knowledgeable of that system, she's very fair, she'll be impartial, and she'll be sensitive to the needs of a child."
