North fork of Black Creek flooded

By Gene Wexler

CLAY COUNTY, FLA. —

Clay County's fire chief and emergency manager Lorin Mock says Black Creek is flooded on the upper end of the north fork.

"People who live in the lower part of the Black Creek will experience that water surge as it goes down and flows through the system," Mock said.

He says people who live nearby should take necessary precautions to prepare their home and belongings.

Working with the Weather Service, they've determined that Black Creek is "entering flood stage now and will remain in flood stage at least through the majority of the week based on current forecast models."

Mock says they've already sent out automated notifications to homes along the creek, but he says they'd still like help alerting those people.

The flood stage begins at 16 feet, and the upper north fork where the creek begins has a level of 18 feet and 2 inches as of Monday afternoon.

"That flood level will continue to progress down the creek gradually over the next few hours.  People who live in the lower part of the Black Creek will experience that water surge as it goes down and flows through the system."

He says this type of flooding occurs every few years.  He says people should stay out of flooded areas, as there is no reason to enter it.
