Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department tells WOKV that two women in their early 20s were taken to the hospital following a fire and shooting at the Motel 6 on Dix Ellis Trail, which is near the intersection of I-95 and Baymeadows Road. One of those women is in life-threatening condition from a gunshot wound. We're told the other is in stable condition.
Specific details were scarce because the investigation is ongoing but police say they got the first call just after 7:15 Friday morning to someone needing fire/rescue. JSO says they do suspect foul play though they did not mention the cause of the fire.
JSO says they located the vehicle they believe may have been connected to the incidents. It is described as a forest green 4-door 2002 Buick vehicle with Florida tag 824TYU. Public information officer Melissa Bujeda says they were told the car has headlights that shine green and the vehicle has fake air vents on the front quarter panel.
JFRD's original report before 9 a.m. was that one person was dead and another was taken to the hospital with burns. That report was corrected.
