Jacksonville, FL —

The man who led Jacksonville Police on a chase after a Northside carjacking late last night has been charged.

20-year-old Enrico Theodious Rhodes is facing three counts of armed robbery and one count carjacking with a firearm.  During the early morning pursuit four officers fired on the suspect, and they remain in their positions right now.

The string of events began around 11:35 last night when 3 employees of the Olive Garden at 13040 City Station Drive were leaving the building.  They saw someone crouched by the building dressed in all black.

The individual then rushed the three employees while pointing a handgun at them.  He demanded keys and phones, and even forced two of the victims to remove their pants, according to the police report.

JSO Assistant Chief of Crimes Against Persons Christopher Butler says the suspect then fled in a 2006 Chevrolet Silver Impala which belonged to one of the victims.

A BOLO was put out for the suspect which led to officers on the Westside trying to stop the suspect near Park Street and Blanding Boulevard.  The suspect did not stop and actually fired at police during their persuit.

Police performed an immobilization technique which ran the suspect off the road on the 1900 block of Old Middleburg Road.  When the suspect fled four policemen fired on the man although nobody was shot.

A K-9 unit was then used to track down the suspect.  Rhodes does have puncture wounds on his left hip that are consistent with a dog bite, although he continues to deny involvement.

Police did not find a gun either on Rhodes or in the car, but a 9mm High Point handgun with 2 live rounds and one round in the chamber that had malfunctioned was found on the 1700 block of Old Middleburg Road.  Police have not definitely linked the gun to this case yet.

The officers who fired their guns are still on normal duty.  Butler says if the officers had hit the man they would be placed on administrative leave, but when the shots do not hit it is taken on a case-by-case basis.
