JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —
The Jacksonville husband and wife convicted in the accidental drownings of their two children are sentenced to one year in jail, with credit for the two months they've served so far.
The judge handed down the sentence against Jovita and Markanthony Ibeagwa Thursday.
The children -- Gerrard, 6, and Blessing, 3 -- were left home alone in June 2010 when they climbed a neighbor's fence and drowned in the pool.
Jovita was convicted of aggravated manslaughter in the deaths of her children, while Markanthony was found guilty of child neglect with great bodily harm.
The two were tried separately, and their verdicts were read together.
The state was asking for an eight-and-a-half-year prison sentence for Jovita and a five-year prison sentence for Markanthony.
