JACKSONVILLE, Fla. —

JSO has arrested a man in connection to a Westside shooting that left one dead after an argument over drugs escalated into violence.

30-year-old John Redding is a seven-time convicted felon…he was arrested Friday for the shooting of 36-year-old Michael Tanner.  Lt. Rob Schoonover with JSO says the community played a big role in helping catch the suspect.

"There were plenty of people that saw this happen.  They [detectives] through the night and all during this week and they've had witnesses come forward."

Schoonover says Tanner was in an argument with Redding’s brother over the drugs when Redding came out of the house with an assault rifle and shot Tanner multiple times.  Redding’s most recent felony conviction came from driving with a suspended license and being a habitual traffic offender.
