Jacksonville, FL —
Jacksonville Police are actively searching for a man who tried to abduct a woman on the southside.
The 25-year-old woman was jogging in the Timberlin Park neighborhood near the Avenues Mall last night when she saw the man but continued jogging. A short time later she noticed the man behind her and was then hit on the head four times.
The man then dragged her in to a wooded area but she got away. He caught her once again, but then fled when a car approached.
His intention is not clear at this time, although police do not suspect robbery. Chief Tom Hackney with JSO says, however, that it was clear from the man's actions that his intent was to attack this woman.
JSO patrol cars were seen late Thursday night scouring the area around the Avenues for signs of the suspect.
They are looking for any information you have about the man, who you can see pictured in the sketch to the left, as well as a truck that was seen in the area. Police do not know whether a red Nissan Titan truck with an extended cab that was in the area is related at all to the man, but they want to locate the truck to find out.
WOKV's Matt Augustine spent Friday morning driving through Timberlin Parc and some of the surrounding subdivisions and apartments and didn’t see a single JSO cruiser in the area. Despite the morning chill there were a few joggers out who we talked to. Each of them said JSO had been going door-to-door Thursday seeking more information on the suspect. A gentleman walking his dog said the neighborhood watch association had sent an email to residents telling them to keep an eye out. One resident said she’s not changing her routine, but will definitely be a bit more conscious of her surroundings.
