Police searching for Fla. family who may have 'suicide pact'

By Matt Augustine

MELBOURNE, Fla. —

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has issued an alert for two missing children that they believe are endangered.

The Department of Children and Families has been looking for 2-year-old Kiah Firth and 4-year-old Kristin Firth, who are believed to be with their parents, 43-year-old James Firth and 31-year-old Mai Dang Firth.  The family reportedly resides in Vietnam and had traveled to the United States in order to get treatment for Kristin, who has autism.  FDLE officials say the family had been struggling with the cost of the treatment and was frustrated and distressed.

Adding to law enforcement officials' concern is a possible 'suicide pact' that they say the parents may have made to kill their children and themselves.  They were last seen traveling in a 2002 silver Lexus SUV with Florida tag 612PGW.

The family was last seen near the Florida Institute of Technology.  James Firth has family in Florida, Arizona, and Michigan, and officials say the family may be traveling to San Francisco to catch a flight to Vietnam.

If you have any information about the family's whereabouts, you're asked to call Melbourne Police at 321-409-2205 or Florida Department of Law Enforcement at 1-888-FL MISSING (1-888-356-4774).
