Jacksonville has lost a well respected journalist.
Times Union reporter Jessie-Lynne Kerr lost her battle with lung cancer.
She shared her battle in a regular newspaper column.
Former Times Union business writer Karen Mathis worked with Kerr for 30 years, and tells WOKV she was loved and well respected among her co-workers.
"It was her extended family. We always considered her to be our sister, our aunt, our mother at times. And I think she always considered to be her children, her brothers, her sisters".
The media room in the new Duval County Courthouse will be named in Kerr's honor. And Mayor Peyton has declared February 22nd Jessie-Lynne Kerr day in Jacksonville.
