Retired Jacksonville detective says it was political hyperbole, not a threat

By Matt Augustine

Jacksonville, FL —

A bad choice of words costs a veteran member of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to retire early.

24-year veteran Sam Koivisto retired after an internal investigation into some comments he made about the President and members of the Democratic party.

In an interview with internal affairs investigators, Koivisto says he made comments to the effect of "if there was an order given to kill the president, he wouldn't mind being the guy to do it".

But Koivisto says it wasn't a real threat, just political hyperbole.

"That's not saying that I'm gonna do it or would do it. That never gonna happen".

JSO did notify the Secret Service of Koivisto's comments and if he's charged at the federal level, that will come down from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
