PALM HARBOR, Fla. —
If you were wondering when would be the first time a politican would get heckled by protesters, your wait is over.
As Florida Senator Marco Rubio spoke to Florida and South Carolina delegates at Tuesday's Fresh From Florida Victory Breakfast, several hecklers stood up at different points during his keynote speech and began shouting over him. One protester told Rubio he needed to “pay his fair share.” Another man told him he represented the working class, and wanted the GOP to stop whoring itself out to special interests…Rubio played along, let the hecklers finished, and found time to crack a joke or two as they were being escorted off the premises.
"Well I guess they're not happy with the hotel assignment," he said amid chants of "USA! USA!" and "Marco! Marco!"
The majority of Rubio’s speech went uninterrupted, as he told the audience that prosperity is created by job creators and the private sector, not by the economy as the president believes
"The challenge in this convention and this election is to convince the American people that the direction we're on now is the wrong direction."
Rubio says President Obama's idea of growing jobs and the economy through government has failed.
"Prosperity is created when someone who has money uses their own money to start a business or grow an existing business...it's a very dramatic choice between two very different views of what the role of government can be and should be."
Rubio will introduce Mitt Romney when he will assumedly accept the GOP nomination for president Thursday.
