Scott, Carroll not budging on endorsement

By Matt Augustine

TALLAHASSEE, Fl. —

Florida's Governor and Lt. Governor staying firm on their plans to endorse a presidential candidate.

"No, the governor and I are not going to be endorsing any candidates in the primary," says Carroll.

"I'm like everyone else, I want to hear more about these candidates," says Scott.

Carroll says they endorsed a candidate for the primary in 2008, and it took focus away from the campaign.

"That really swayed the campaign away from asking the hard questions and making these candidates perform."

They both did agree, however, that the results of Saturday's straw poll were very telling as to how Florida really felt as a state toward the GOP race.

"It'll help to get a pulse on what the rest of the country may be looking for in a message and a candidate as well," Carroll says.

If history is any guide, Herman Cain will at least be the GOP nominee.  Florida has only done 3 straw polls in its history; the first two were won by Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, who both went on to become president.  The third was won by Bob Dole, who won the GOP nomination, but lost to Bill Clinton in the election.
