Across the board sequestration cuts go into effect tomorrow and Governor Scott is making one last plea to Washington to do their jobs and make a deal that will prevent thousands of Floridians from losing their jobs and funding for services and agencies to be stopped.  He paid a visit to Jacksonville Thursday for Mayor Brown's education summit and took a moment to talk sequestration as he got off his plane at Craig Airport.

"The President and Congress need to get together, they need to do their job so we don't lose jobs for Florida families."

In a letter he wrote to the president yesterday Governor Scott highlighted some of the effects of sequestration to Florida, one of them being a “failure to transfer” three ships from an amphibious ready group to Mayport. 

"Instead of cutting with a scalpel, your sequestration process is a meat cleaver," Governor Scott wrote.

But when WOKV asked the Navy they said they’re still planning for the ships to come in FY2014.  When we pushed the governor to tell us where he got the information he finally said shortly "We got it from our D.C. office." 

Jacksonville’s head of military affairs Rear Admiral (ret) Victor Guillory says he hasn’t seen any specific decisions made on the ARG but thinks every line item will be reviewed.

"I believe that decision has not been made, however it's clear that it is on the table," said Guillory.

The governor says he’s also concerned the cuts could hurt the National Guard’s ability to help fight wildfire and hurricanes.
