A Jacksonville man already in jail is charged in a St. Johns County cold case.
55-year-old Willian W. Browning is now charged with the death of 38-year-old Ralph Whittemore from more than 30 years ago. Whittemore’s body was found near the intersection of Solano Road and TPC Boulevard in Pote Vedra Beach. An autopsy later confirmed he died from blunt trauma as the result of a homicide.
Browning is already serving a 150 year jail sentence in Duval County jail for a 1982 murder. He confessed to beating and stabbing a man in Neptune Beach and was convicted of second degree murder.
The cold case was reopened in January after deputies determined potential DNA evidence could be evaluated and tested. Two DNA profiles were developed from the testing- one the victim and one later confirmed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to be Browning.
