ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. —
Deputies in St. Johns county are undergoing investigation after a police-involved shooting over the weekend. Sheriff David Shoar has asked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to get involved with the investigation.
Police responded to the 2900 block of County Road 214 to a report of a domestic disturbance. When they arrived on scene, they found 46-year-old Andrea Sheldon at the door and say she was pointing a shotgun at them.
Deputies say they asked Sheldon to put the gun down, and when she wouldn't comply, they opened fire. Despite attempts to revive Sheldon, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Times-Union reports Sheldon's husband Richard is a firefighter with Jacksonville Fire/Rescue. He was the original subject of the domestic dispute after police report Andrea and Richard had an argument involving weapons. He was later found a distance from his home. His vehicle was stuck in a ditch and he was armed but he surrendered to police.
The investigation is ongoing.
