Tallahassee, FL —

Expect to hear about more funding for Florida classrooms when Governor Rick Scott unveils his budget proposal Thursday afternoon in Tallahassee.

Post on Politics reporter John Kennedy says the education budget has been on a rollercoaster during the Scott administration.

"His first year as governor, Scott signed a budget that cut education by $1.3-Billion. Last year, he increased education by $1-Billion," says Kennedy.

And Thursday, Scott will propose a $1.2-Billion boost to education as part of his budget package.

"But we will have to see more details about where does he get that money?" says Kennedy. State Republicans are asking that same question. For the first time since at least 2007, Florida is operating under a surplus. It amounts to $800-Million, but Republicans say that's not enough to cover a billion dollar boost to education.

On the otherhand, State Democrats see this as a tactic for Scott's re-election campaign.

"And the person that he may be facing in that campaign, is former Republican Governor-turned-Democrat, Charlie Crist," Kennedy added. Crist is considered to be a favorite of the state's largest teachers union.

When he announces his budget proposal at 2pm, expect Scott to also highlight tax breaks for manufacturers and another reduction to the corporate income tax. The state legislature will begin work on the spending plan in March.
